Classic Arcade Games Attack in New ‘Pixels’ Trailer

Sony unveils the first trailer for Pixels,’ based on the 2010 viral short film by Patrick Jean.

Sony has released the first trailer for its forthcoming Pixels, a feature adaptation based on the 2010 animated short film directed by Patrick Jean (watch it here) that featured a number of iconic arcade video game characters, including PAC-MAN, Donkey Kong, Centipede, Galaga, Frogger, Q*bert, and Space Invaders.

Starring Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Peter Dinklage, Michelle Monaghan, and Frozen’s Josh Gad, Pixels features a group of aliens who misinterpret video-feeds of classic arcade games as a declaration of war. The aliens ultimately attack the Earth, using the games as models for their various assaults. President Will Cooper (Kevin James) has to call on his childhood best friend, '80s video game champion Sam Brenner (Adam Sandler), now a home theater installer, to lead a team of old-school arcaders (Peter Dinklage and Josh Gad) to defeat the aliens and save the planet. Joining them is Lt. Col. Violet Van Patten (Michelle Monaghan), a specialist supplying the arcaders with unique weapons to fight the aliens.

Directed by Chris Columbus (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone), Pixels is slated for release on July 24.
