The studio's upcoming epic musical-comedy adds the ‘Into the Woods’ actor as King Magnifico of Rosas, a magical kingdom where wishes really do come true, alongside Ariana DeBose as the young lady Asha, opening in theaters November 22.
His reign has begun! Chris Pine (Into the Woods, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves) will play King Magnifico of Rosas, a magical kingdom where wishes really do come true, in Walt Disney Animation Studios’ upcoming musical-comedy Wish. Pine joins Ariana DeBose (Hamilton, Schmigadoon!), who voices the young lady Asha.
“As the most powerful person in the kingdom, King Magnifico needed to be played by someone who could give all the charm, cleverness and charisma to this magnanimous character, and Chris is beautifully bringing all of that and then some,” said Jennifer Lee, executive producer and co-writer of the film.
Wish introduces Asha, a sharp-witted idealist who makes a wish so powerful that it is answered by a cosmic force—a little ball of boundless energy called Star. Together, Asha and Star set out to prove that when the will of one courageous human connects with the magic of the stars, wondrous things can happen.

Stated Veerasunthorn, “We have been inspired by so many iconic films over Disney Animation’s 100 years, especially stories where we explore the power of someone with a wish, combined with the conviction to make that wish come true. Being able to honor that legacy with this incredible story and these amazing characters has been a joy for our entire team.”
Tony Chambers, executive vice president and head of theatrical distribution for Walt Disney Studios, revealed the casting at CinemaCon 2023, highlighting that Wish continues Disney Animation’s tradition of bringing epic tales to the big screen for the Thanksgiving holiday and beyond. The film also marks the culmination of Disney100, a yearlong celebration honoring the legacy of Walt Disney while continuing to push the boundaries of storytelling and innovation for the next 100 years.
Wish opens in U.S. theaters on November 22, 2023.
