Chinese ‘Monster Hunter’ Trailer Reveals… a Cat Chef?

After a disappointing first trailer, the film’s fans have their faith restored with a new Chinese trailer that features humor and the Meowscular Chef.

Now this is a Monster Hunter we can get behind! When the first film trailer came out, it delivered the typical fantasy-adventure fare we have come to expect from blockbuster video game adaptations. Yawn. However, China recently dropped their own version of the trailer, and it is entertaining, funny, and delivers tons of fan service. The franchise isn’t totally ruined!

Sure, writer and director Paul W.S. Anderson (Resident Evil) still decided to go the boring U.S. Army route, but he also included a Palico, the infamous Meowscular Chef, so it’s not all bad. "We have one of the characters, Meowscular Chef, who's the Admiral's sidekick, who's a fantastic character, who has this rather flirtatious relationship with Milla, which is really interesting," Anderson revealed to IGN. Including Palicoes (little bipedal cat assistants) in the film is a huge nod to fans of the game, and we’re excited to see at least one of them get the limelight.

Monster Hunter is still slated to premiere in theaters on December 30th, but that is of course subject to change and pushback.
