Chicago’s Columbia College Launches Stop-Mo Competition

The Department of Cinema Art + Science at Columbia College in Chicago partners with Design Ideas to launch a stop-motion competition featuring Adam the Doodles Man and Rover the Doodles Dog.

Chicago, IL -- Design Ideas recently partnered with the prestige Department of Cinema Art + Science at Columbia College in Chicago to host a contest for students wanting to learn stop animation.

The contest was open to any student in the Department of Cinema Art + Science.  Each participant was given models of Design Ideas’ two best-selling products, Adamthe Doodles Man and Rover the Doodles Dog.  After that, the animators had no other guidelines to follow.  According to Jim Rohn, Associate Professor and Computer Animation Coordinator in the Department of Cinema Art + Science, “One of the nice things about working with Design Ideas is the freedom they gave the students.”  This freedom allowed students to fully express their creativity, aiding to the success of the contest.

Valencia Spates was named the grand prize winner of the “Adam and Rover Stop Motion Competition.”  Spates was awarded a $1,500 check.  In addition, her video was showcased at Design Ideas’ booth at this summer’s NY NOW tradeshow in New York City, a world-renowned show that attracts 35,000 attendees from all 50 states and over 80 countries.

Contest participants are part of a top-notch animation program at Columbia College in Chicago.  In fact, Columbia College was recently named the top Animation and Game Design Schools in the Midwest by Animation Career Review.  According to Animation Career Review, “Columbia’s game design and related programs may pave the way to a position at some of the industry’s top companies.”  The “Adam and Rover Stop Motion Competition” will be sponsored by Design Ideas again in the Fall 2013 and Spring 2014 semesters.
