Following a number of new series commissions, UK public broadcaster CBeebies is adding another new preschool series -- Chop Chop! -- to its slate, according to a report by Broadcast Now.

Commissioned by BBC Worldwide and CBeebies UK, the series pitched at Cartoon Forum 2012 was created by Grant Orchard, the Oscar-nominated director of A Morning Stroll, in collaboration with the London-based Studio AKA.

The 52 x 7-minute Chop Chop! (working title) is also one of the first series to be guaranteed a tax break by the BFI on behalf of the Department for Culture, Media & Sport. Chop Chop!  follows the adventures of a diverse collection of animals and personalities known as the Squirrel Club. Each episode of the series will see The Squirrels performing an activity suggested by Chop Chop, with badges awarded for completing their tasks. Activity sheets and virtual badges matching each episode will be available for download from the program’s website.

Studio AKA is a commercial agency that has worked on campaigns for Lloyds TSB, Toyota, Skype and the Science Museum. It has also created on-air IDs for kids’ brands such as Disney and Cartoon Network, but this is its first major children’s commission.

The series is expected to launch next fall across CBeebies channels worldwide. BBC Worldwide holds the commercial rights for the series, including global channel broadcast, distribution and merchandising.
