Cartoon Network Debuts ‘Circle Time with Miss Ruby & Jessica’ Interstitial

The short features an animated Jessica from ‘Craig of the Creek’ talking to Ruby Bridges, civil rights icon and activist, about her experience as the first Black child integrated into an all-white school, and asking what kids can do to be peace makers.

Cartoon Network has debuted a special interstitial short, Circle Time with Miss Ruby & Jessica that features civil rights icon and activist, Ruby Bridges, along with an animated Jessica (voiced by Lucia Cunningham) from the Emmy-, GLAAD-, and NAACP Award-nominated series, Craig of the Creek. Jessica talks with Miss Ruby about her experience as the first Black child integrated into an all-white Louisiana school in 1960, and asks what kids can do to be peace makers.

Bridges book, “This Is Your Time,” released last year, recounts her experience after she was chosen as one of the first Black students to integrate into an all-white public school in New Orleans. Iconic images of her as a six-year-old child being escorted to class by federal marshals are vivid, enduring visual reminders of her story and hopes to bring peace while effecting change.

An extended version of the short featuring a special reading from “This Is Your Time,” as well as a Q&A, will be available on the Cartoon Network YouTube channel.
