Call for Entries: The 27th Edition of Cartoons on the Bay

Submissions are now being accepted for the International Festival of Animation coming to Pescara, Italy, with new Pulcinella Awards that look to the future and innovation, and a new competition category dedicated to ‘Youth Shows’ for kids ages 11+; deadline for entry is March 31.

The 27th edition of Cartoons on the Bay – International Festival of Animation, Transmedia and Meta-Arts, returns to Pescara (Abruzzo Region, Italy) May 31 to June 4. The event is promoted by Rai and organized by Rai Com. Submissions are now being accepted.

This year’s theme is “Real, Unreal, Virtual. Imagined worlds and imaginary worlds. Between utopia, opportunity, and alienation. The suspension of technological disbelief."

The festival has announced three new Pulcinella Awards that look toward the future and innovation:

  • Transmedia Award will go to a brand that leads audiences on multiple platforms with powerful storytelling.
  • Meta Award goes to a brand that can immerse the spectator into a fascinating, stimulating, and safe digital world.
  • Arlecchino Award goes to the creative product best able to communicate the complex topic of gender diversity to its target audience,

The Call for Entries is now open through March 31.

Entries for the Animated Feature Films category can be submitted on the Filmfreeway platform after registering on the event website. Updated regulations are available here, and submission information is available here.

This year sees the addition of a new competition category, “Youth TV Shows,” dedicated to programming for kids ages 11+. It joins the previous competition categories Preschool TV Shows (ages 2-4), Upper Preschool TV Shows (ages 4-6), Kids TV Shows (ages 7-11), Interactive Animation, Live Action, and Hybrid Shows, TV Pilots, Short Film, and Animated Features.

The last edition received 360 submissions, the participation of over 1000 industry professionals accredited to the event, more than 5000 attendees at the shows, and thousands of students attending screenings and previews.
