Deadline.com reports that Tim Burton wants to direct a 3-D stop-motion feature based on Charles Addams' THE ADDAMS FAMILY drawings. Chris Meledandri's Illumination Entertainment has snatched up the rights to the drawings, which appeared in THE NEW YORKER. This version will be unconnected to the TV series, feature films or Broadway play.
Meladandri will serve as producer with the Tee and Charles Addams Foundation's Kevin Miserocchi exec producing. The producers are currently looking for a writer.
Illumination's first animated feature, DESPICABLE ME, will be released by Universal on July 9th. Other projects include I HOP and Ricky Gervais' FLANIMALS in 2011, followed by WHERE’S WALDO and DR. SEUSS’ THE LORAX.
