British Animator Run Wrake Dies

British animator Run Wrake dies at the age of 47.

AWN’s inbox was greeted this morning by the sad news that British animator Run Wrake died on Sunday at the age of 47.

According to a report by Cartoon Brew, Wrake died of cancer and is survived by his wife, Lisa, and two children, Florence and Joe:

"Wrake was born in 1965 as John Wrake in the Republic of Yemen to a father who was an army chaplain. He attended the Chelsea College of Art and Design, and later the Royal College of Art. He burst onto the animation scene with his student film Anyway (1990), which aired on MTV’s Liquid Television."

His short film, Rabbit, was BAFTA nominated for Best Animated Short and won a host of awards at film festivals across the world, among them Best Film at the British Animation Awards 2006, and the McLaren Award for Animation at the Edinburgh Film Festival. Wake also worked extensively on commercials and live visuals for bands including U2 and Oasis.
