Bringing Down The House Brings Up March Box Office

BRINGING DOWN THE HOUSE from Buena Vista brought in an exceptionally big weekend box office debut for the month of March in North America. Taking in roughly $31.7M, it was the third best ever debut in March, behind 20th Century Fox's ICE AGE ($46.3) and New Line's BLADE 2 ($32.5M). TEARS OF THE SUN, with visual effects by ILM, debuted in second place with $17.2M while OLD SCHOOL, vfx by Gray Matter FX, slipped a notch to third place at $9.2M and a cue of $50.8. CHICAGO, with visual effects by Toybox and Film Effects Inc., edged up into fourth place, taking in $6.9M to bring its total to $114.5M. HOW TO LOSE A GUY IN 10 DAYS, with visual effects by Pixel Magic, is still in the top 10 at fifth place taking in $6.7M and a $86.9M total. CRADLE 2 THE GRAVE (Bryan Horiba was vfx supervisor) toppled off its top position to sixth place earning $6.5M and a total of $27M. DAREDEVIL, with primary vfx by Rhythm & Hues, Pixel Magic and Digital Domain, follows in seventh place taking in $5.1M and a cue of $91.4M. JUNGLE BOOK 2 is still swinging near the top of the chart in eighth with $4.2M and $39.5M total receipts. SHANGHAI KNIGHTS, featuring visual effects by Cinesite and Effects Assoc., moved down to ninth with $2.6M for a total cume of $54.7M.
