Box Office: 'Expendables 2' On Top; 'ParaNorman' Nabs $14M

“Expendables 2,” from Lionsgate and Millennium Films, easily topped the box office, besting “Bourne Legacy” on its second week out and the debut of the stop-motion animated “ParaNorman.”

Expendables 2, from Lionsgate and Millennium Films, easily topped the box office with $28.8 million, but came in $6 million behind The Expendables, which debuted to $34.8 million on the same weekend in 2010.

Bourne Legacy came in number two in its second weekend, grossing $17 million for a domestic total of $69.6 million. Overseas, the film grossed $18.2 million for an international total of $28.1 million, bringing in a worldwide total of $97.7 million.

Focus Features' family film ParaNorman came in third, grossing $14 million. The 3D stop-motion feature was produced by Laika, the creative force behind Coraline. The tale of boy who must stop the destruction of his hometown by a witch's spell, ParaNorman is voiced by Casey Affleck, Tempestt Bledsoe, Jeff Garlin, John Goodman, Anna Kendrick and Leslie Mann. 

Warner Bros.' raunchy political comedy The Campaign, starring Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis, placed number four, grossing $13.4 million in its second weekend for a domestic total of $51.7 million.

TriStar's musical drama Sparkle -- Whitney Houston's final movie -- came in number five in its debut, grossing $12 million.

Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises came in sixth at the domestic box office with $11.1 million for a total of $409.9 million.

The Odd Life of Timothy Green, starring Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton as a childless couple who dream up a 10-year-old boy, came in at number seven, posting a five-day debut of $15.2 million.

At number eight, Sony’s Hope Springs, starring Meryl Streep, Tommy Lee Jones and Steve Carell, brought in $9.1 million for a total of $35.1 million.

Fox’s Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days came in ninth with $3.9 million for a total of $38.8 million.

Rounding out the list at number 10, Sony’s reboot of Total Recall brought in $3.5 million for a total of $51.8 million.

Disney also made box office headlines as Brave jumped the $400 million mark at the worldwide box office, the 11th Pixar title to reach the milestone.
