Blinkink Delivers New Gorillaz Video, ‘Tranz’

U.K. animation specialists team up with Gorillaz director & co-creator Jamie Hewlett and director Nicos Livesey to create the world’s most famous virtual band’s first-ever performance video.

Continuing its collaboration with Gorillaz, U.K. animation specialists Blinkink recently completed “Tranz,” the second music video from the British musical act’s latest album, The Now Now.

Blinkink teamed up Gorillaz director & co-creator Jamie Hewlett and director Nicos Livesey to create the world’s most famous virtual band’s first-ever performance video.

With the help of Paris-based production company Eddy, Blinkink captured the band performing against green screen, then supplemented the footage with analogue FX mixers and some mind-bending mixed-media animation.

Check it out in the player below:

Livesey is known for creating innovative animation techniques incorporating physical mediums, such as the tapestry embroidery for this year’s BBC World Cup trailer, and the old-school Claymation of his “Glore“ video for U.S. punk band Radkey.
