Black Hawk Down Stays Up For Third Week

Despite a lackluster weekend box office due to the Super Bowl, the action of BLACK HAWK DOWN, with visual effects by The Mill and Asylum, kept the film at number one for a third week in a row. The film earned $11.1M for a total of $75.1M. The rest of the box office is almost a repeat of last week, with Disneys SNOW DOGS still in second, with $10.2M for a cume of $51.1M. In its second week of release THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO jumped up a spot to fourth, earning $8.8M for $23.4M to date. A BEAUTIFUL MIND, with primary visual effects by Digital Domain, crossed the $100M mark this weekend, bringing in $8.4M for $104.5M and fifth place. Thriller THE MOTHMAN PROPHECIES, with visual effects by Cinesite, stayed in sixth for a second week, with $7.4M and $21.2M to date. After dropping five places last week, LORD OF THE RINGS, with primary visual effects by WETA, held steady in eighth with $6.6M for $267.1M total. Martial arts spoof KUNG POW: ENTER THE FIST, with visual effects by Rhythm & Hues, managed to hold on in ninth place with $3.8M and a two-week total of $12M. JIMMY NEUTRON is still on the charts, earning $1.2M for a total of $77.7M. And BEAUTY AND THE BEAST took in another 41.1M this weekend for a five week total of $14.1M.
