The gang is mostly back together as Dr. Venkman confirms his role in ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’ coming to theaters July 10, 2020.
Who ya gonna call? Bill Murray! The original 1989 Ghostbusters actor will reprise his role as Dr. Peter Venkman in Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Murray will be joined once again by Dan Aykroyd’s Ray Stantz, Ernie Hudson’s Winston Zeddermore, Annie Pott’s Janine Melnitz and Sigourney Weaver’s Dana Barrett. Notably absent will be Rick Moranis, who exited the acting world 20 years ago, and Harold Ramis, who unfortunately passed away in 2014. Ramis’ Egon Spengler may be gone, but he is definitely not forgotten: his absence will be an integral part of the film’s plot. Many believe that he is the grandfather of newcomers Trevor (Finn Wolfhard) and Phoebe (McKenna Grace). The film will follow the descendants of the original Ghostbusters team, with the old boys having a meaningful, but not central role. Sounds good to us! Now our only question is, where’s Slimer?
Ghostbusters: Afterlife will be directed by Jason Reitman (Whiplash, Up in the Air) and written by Jason Reitman & Gil Kenan (Monster House, Poltergeist). The film will be produced by Ivan Reitman (Animal House, Ghostbusters II) and hits theaters on July 10, 2020.
