Big Live-Action Names Invade Cartoon Movie

In a report on Variety, the trade publication highlights the big names in live-action that will be involved in this year's Cartoon Movie.

Terry Gilliam is one of the producers on 1884, a digitally animated feature from British filmmaker Tim Olliver. MONTY PYTHON alum, which are being kept secret at this time, are part of the voice cast.

Patrice Leconte (MAN ON THE TRAIN, GIRL ON THE BRIDGE) has directed his first animated feature THE SUICIDE SHOP. The 3-D 2D production is like a pop-up book come to life.

Fernando Trueba (BELLE EPOQUE) takes the helm of CHICO & RITA, a romantic comedy taking place in the 1940s Jazz scene. Javier Mariscal designed the animated feature, which opened in the U.K. last November.

Fifty-five films will be shown at this year's event.

Other highlights include: Tibor Banoczki's Upton Sinclair adaptation THE JUNGLE; Ignacio Ferreras' Alzheimer's disease tale WRINKLES; Simon Rouby's immigration story ADAMA; Fin Karl Juusonen's android-themed video game adaptation THE SAMPO; Barry Donoghue's Inuit tale LITTLE CARIBOU; Les Armateurs' $20.4 million production FRENCH RIVIERA; BLACK MOR'S ISLAND director Jean-Francois Laguionie's THE PICTURE; Weinstein Co.-distributed and Gaumont-Alphanim-produced SANTA'S APPRENTICE; and Constantin Film's ANIMALS UNITED.
