Big Block Live Clicks with Greenpeace

Big Block Live and directorial team Josh + Vince create #ClickClean, a new campaign for Greenpeace featuring comedian and musician Reggie Watts.

New York, NY -- Big Block Live and its directorial team Josh + Vince brought the good energy, their close ties to the artistic community and their signature brand of humor to the new Greenpeace campaign #Click Clean by The VIA Agency.

To encourage web giants like Amazon and Twitter to use cleaner, renewable energy to power their businesses, Greenpeace harnessed the talents of the wildly original comedian and musician Reggie Watts. Watts freestyles with comic genius abandon about animals, hydropower, wind power and solar energy in #ClickClean’s four nature-oriented videos.

Watts serenades an incongruous menagerie of animals in a rainforest (Reggie Watts’ Grandma Clicks Dirty); delivers a metaphysical dissertation while floating on a giant lily pad in a bayou (Reggie Watts Hydropowers the Internet); yodels in an alpine mountain valley to get a windmill spinning (Reggie Watts Yodels for Wind Power); and raps in the desert with prairie dog backup dancers (Reggie Watts Goes Solar).

Big Block Live handled all aspects of the campaign’s production and live action shoot. Directors Josh + Vince reached out to their friend Reggie Watts, a multi-genre performer and film, television, TED, YouTube and Twitter sensation, about appearing in the Greenpeace campaign. They also called on New York artist Lori Nix, a friend and collaborator, to create her famously intricate dioramas for the #ClickClean videos. They knew that she would provide a brilliant solution to cover four uniquely different environments, which had to be shot in just one day of live action production on a limited budget. Josh + Vince photographed Watts and Nix’s custom miniature sets against greenscreen. All of the captured elements were then composited by VIA’s in-house post group.

Josh + Vince said, “We had just delivered the Sexy Model video for Save The Children and that gave us the itch to continue to make more conscientious content. Reggie Watts really made the #ClickClean project possible. Every take he did was a knockout. He’s a brilliantly talented performer, but as an environmentalist, he was genuinely invested in the project. He’s so informed—most of his beatbox improv came from his wealth of knowledge. We wrapped and Reggie stuck around for a long, in-depth conversation with the Greenpeace folks on set. That's when we knew we had made the right choice.”

#ClickClean is The VIA Agency’s second campaign for Greenpeace on the clean cloud issue. Two years ago, VIA rolled out a suite of online videos encouraging Apple, Microsoft and Amazon to power their data centers with renewable energy. The campaign was successful in driving awareness of the issue and prompting Apple to commit to renewable energy. Building on that momentum, #ClickClean hopes to positively encourage companies like Twitter, Amazon, Pinterest and Airbnb to make the switch to renewable energy with a campaign that has humor at its core and that people would rally behind and share.

The #ClickClean campaign will be supported in North America and internationally via Greenpeace’s social channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest), coupled with guerilla tactics on the ground, including street stencils, posters, and street teams distributing #ClickClean t-shirts and stickers.
