Benedict Cumberbatch, Claire Foy Join ‘Mog’ Voice Cast

The A-list duo will portray Mr. and Mrs. Thomas in an animated feature adaptation of the beloved British children’s book ‘Mog’s Christmas’ from Channel 4, airing this holiday season.

This Christmas will be the cat’s meow! According to Variety, Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange, 1917) and Claire Foy (The Crown, The Girl in the Spider’s Web) will lend their voices as Mr. and Mrs. Thomas to the upcoming hand-drawn animated feature Mog, an adaptation of the beloved British children’s novel “Mog’s Christmas.” The “Mog” series of books, first published in 1970, is based on author Judith Kerr’s own cheeky kitty.

Joining the duo are Adjoa Andoh (Bridgerton) as the narrator; Miriam Margolyes (Harry Potter) and Maggie Steed (Paddington 2) as the Aunts; Zawe Ashton (Fresh Meat) as Mrs. Gaynor; Charlie Higson (The Fast Show) as the Jolly Uncle; Gareth Berliner (Dr Who) as the Chestnut Seller; and newcomers Amelie Law and Teddy Skelton as Debbie and Nicky Thomas.

“Our own Mog was a huge part of my childhood,” said Tracy Kneale, Kerr’s daughter and “voice” of Mog. “I hope I’ve done her justice!”

Robin Shaw (The Tiger Who Came to Tea) directs from a screenplay by Joanna Harrison (The Snowman and The Snowdog).

The original book follows the exploits of the sassy Mog, who feels neglected during the Thomas family Christmas festivities. When the big holiday tree spooks the poor cat, she refuses to leave the roof and experiences her own Christmas dream during a quick cat nap before falling down the chimney the next morning.

“Judith Kerr’s much-loved Mog will be a great addition to this collection and a really special festive treat for the audience,” said Channel 4 drama commissioning editor Gwawr Lloyd in a statement.

The film is produced by U.K. animation studio Lupus Films and was commissioned by Channel 4 in association with Universal Pictures Content Group.

Mog will air later this year during Channel 4’s Christmas schedule.
