‘Beetlejuice 2’ in Development at Warner Bros.

The sequel to Tim Burton’s 1988 cult classic will star Michael Keaton as Beetlejuice, Jenna Ortega as Lydia Deetz’ daughter, and Justin Theroux in an undisclosed role, haunting theaters September 6, 2024.

It’s showtime! Michael Keaton will reprise his role as the eponymous ghost with the most in Beetlejuice 2, Warner Bros. has announced.

While plot details are still firmly under wraps, we do know that Wednesday star Jenna Ortega will play the daughter of Lydia Deetz, a role made famous by Winona Ryder in the 1988 film. Joining Keaton and Ortega is Justin Theroux (The Leftovers, White House Plumbers) in an undisclosed role, as well as Monica Bellucci (Mafia Mamma). Returning cast includes Ryder and Catherine O’Hara. Original filmmaker Tim Burton, in talks to helm a sequel since at least 2013, returns to helm the sequel, with a script by Wednesday creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar.

The original Beetlejuice followed a recently deceased couple who hire a problematic poltergeist to scare away a dysfunctional family living in their once home sweet home. The family’s strange and unusual teenage daughter Lydia quickly befriends the ghostly twosome and works to help everyone peacefully coexist.

Production for Beetlejuice 2 began this week in London. Brad Pitt's Plan B produces alongside Burton, Tommy Harper, Marc Toberoff, and David Geffen.

Beetlejuice 2 begins its theatrical haunt on September 6, 2024.
