Bee Movie Has More Box Office Sting

The animated BEE MOVIE proved to be more powerful in its second outing, pollinating theaters with an estimated $26M worth of honey over the Veterans Day holiday weekend period through Nov. 11, 2007. In two weeks, Paramount/DreamWorks has collected $72.2M.

Slipping to second place was Universal's AMERICAN GANGSTER (with vfx by Gray Matter FX and Invisible Effects), which pulled in $24.3M for a two-week take of $80.6M. Debuting in third and fourth were FRED CLAUS and LIONS FOR LAMBS. FRED CLAUS (with vfx from MPC, Cinesite, Peerless Camera, Rainmaker UK, among others) hauled in $19.2M for Warner Bros. LIONS FOR LAMBS grabbed $6.7M for UA. Buena Vista's DAN IN REAL LIFE followed in fifth with $5.8M for a three-week cume of $30.6M. Lionsgate's SAW IV (with vfx by Switch VFX) settled for sixth with $5M for a cume of $58M. Seventh place belonged to Buena Vista's THE GAME PLAN, which brought home $2.4M for a total of $85.4M. P2 debuted in eighth with $2.2M for Summit Ent. Sony's 30 DAYS OF NIGHT (with vfx from Weta Digital) took the ninth spot with $2.1M and a cume of $37.3M. And 10th place belonged to New Line's MARTIAN CHILD, with $1.7M and $6M.

Meanwhile, Buena Vista's reissue of TIM BURTON'S THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS IN DISNEY DIGITAL 3-D (with technical assistance from ILM) added another $854,000 for a total of $14M. And Warner Bros.' BLADE RUNNER: THE FINAL CUT (from Sony Pictures Imageworks, Illusion Arts, Lola Visual Effects and The Orphanage) added another $76,000 to its total of $627,000.
