B1 Media Leaps To Larger Studio, Expands Talent Base

Design studio B1 Media has moved its headquarters to a new facility in Studio City, California, more than doubling the size of its previous space, and has added several new staffers to its growing talent base. Previously partnered in multimedia company Barbed Wire, Joshua Hatton has moved to B1 as an animator involved in 2D and 3D animation and motion graphics working on DVD, broadcast design and games. Game producer Jason Friedlander joins B1 from MTV's ROAD RULES where he was responsible for developing and writing game competitions. B1 has also added producer Melissa McManigal, who was previously an auditor at Universal Music Group. Finally, Brian Kwan has signed on with the studio as a production manager. He previously was an executive producer at Catalyst Productions, Oakland, where he was responsible for all aspects of daily operations for the graphics and visual consulting firm. Reflecting recent growth in its DVD design business and its expansion into broadcast and game design, B1 is now providing a new suite of services including compositing, rotoscoping, visual effects and a 3D render farm. The new studio has been wired for gigabit networking and features Maya, Final Cut Pro, After Effects and Pro Tools.

Sylvia Edwards spoke to B1 Media in her quest to uncover the differences between the gaming production process and more traditional animation fields.
