AVATAR has broken the first day Blu-ray sales record previously held by THE DARK KNIGHT, according to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. The 2-D version of the epic sold 1.5 million copies on Thursday. Estimates put the overall sales will be around 4 million, which would make it one of the biggest selling title of the year. On average stores sold 60% of their Blu-ray inventory and 50% of the DVDs. An extended version of the film will hit Blu-ray in November and Fox plans to release a 3-D version next year.
