ASIFA-East Opens 2016 Call for Entries

Deadline for submissions to the ASIFA-East Animated Film Festival is January 31.

NEW YORK -- ASIFA-East is currently accepting entries for the 2016 ASIFA-East Animation Film Festival.

Debuting in 1969, the ASIFA-East Animated Film Festival is one of the longest running festivals of its kind. The entries are judged by ASIFA-East members in an open screening for each category. Anyone may attend the screenings, but only current ASIFA-East members are permitted to vote for the winning films. The votes are sealed and tallied by an independent accountant and announced at a special awards ceremony in the Spring.  The 2015 ASIFA-East Peggy Award for Best in Show went to Driving by Nate Theis.

The deadline for submissions is January 31, 2016. Films produced before July 1, 2014 are not eligible. This is a two-part entry. If you want to submit the old-fashioned way, you may print out the paper submissions form and mail it with your DVD.

Now in its 46th year, the ASIFA-East Animated Film Festival is a unique showcase for the most groundbreaking independent and commercial animation being produced in the industry today. The Awards Ceremony attracts a vast array of industry creatives and fans of the animation medium. Awards will be given out across a variety of categories and craft from Student, Commissioned, and Independent entries to excellence in writing, design, and animation.

ASIFA (Association Internationale du Film d’ Animation) was formed in 1960 by an international group of animators to coordinate and increase worldwide visibility of animated film. ASIFA’s membership includes animation professionals and fans from more than 50 countries. ASIFA sponsors animation festivals in Annecy, Ottawa, and Hiroshima. ASIFA-East is the Eastern U.S. chapter of ASIFA, based in New York City. ASIFA-East hosts monthly screenings of animated films along with other events of interest to those in the East Coast animation community, as well as fans of the medium.
