Running December 2-6, the in-depth workshop supports development of animated projects by Native Americans with one-on-one mentoring, group sessions and pitch sessions in front of a panel of animation creative executives; the application deadline is September 27.
The Native American Media Alliance (NAMA) has opened applications for the 6th Annual Native American Animation Lab taking place December 2-6. Comcast NBCUniversal, Cherokee Film, County of Los Angeles Art & Culture, and the Department of Cultural Affairs City of Los Angeles present this year’s lab.
The in-depth workshop is for Native Americans who currently have a script, treatment, animated film, original comic book, or visual materials they want to develop into an animated television series or feature film. It offers participants interested in exploring i6 animation careers new industry access.
“Every year, this program provides Native Americans with new opportunities in an arena that needs our representation,” said Native American Media Alliance director of strategy Ian Skorodin (Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma). “Several participants have advanced their animated projects, careers and overall artistic voice from the tools gained from the lab.”
Selected participants will workshop an animation project through one-on-one mentoring, group sessions and peer workshops. The program concludes with an intensive pitching session for each participant before a panel of animation creative executives. The lab’s purpose is to further develop participant skills and prepare them for employment in the industry.
The Native American Animation Lab, created in accordance with The Native American Media Alliance mission, strives to improve media portrayals of Native Americans and to increase the number of Native Americans employed in all facets of the media industry.
