Annapurna Interactive Staff Quits En Masse Following Deal Breakdown

The move follows failed talks between Annapurna Pictures founder Megan Ellison and Nathan Gary, former president of Annapurna Interactive, that were aimed at converting the division into a separate company.

The entire staff of Annapurna Interactive, the games unit of Annapurna, has quit after a deal to convert the division into a separate company fell through last week, according to Bloomberg. The talks, which ultimately broke down, took place between Annapurna Pictures founder Megan Ellison and Nathan Gary, former president of Annapurna Interactive.

“All 25 members of the Annapurna Interactive team collectively resigned,” Gary and the employees said in a joint statement Thursday to Bloomberg. “This was one of the hardest decisions we have ever had to make and we did not take this action lightly.”

Speaking of the drastic move to Variety, Ellison stated, “Our top priority is continuing to support our developer and publishing partners during this transition. We’re committed to not only our existing slate of games but also expanding our presence in the interactive space as we continue to look for opportunities to take a more integrated approach to linear and interactive storytelling across film and TV, gaming and theater.”

Annapurna Interactive is known for participating in the development of several critically acclaimed indie games, such as Stray, What Remains of Edith Finch, Outer Wilds, and Neon White. Its upcoming slate includes Forever Ago, Skin Deep, Bounty Star, Silent Hill: Townfall, Wanderstop, Mixtape, and Morsels. No word yet on if these titles will face a delay.
