Animatricks 2021 Announces Competition Nominees

In addition to the competition and screenings, the virtual event will explore women and animation, freedom of speech, social criticism, and satire; the conference will run online from May 20-23.

Animatricks International Animation Festival, running online May 20-23, has announced the nominees for its animation competition. Notable films included in this year’s program are Oscar nominated French director Adrien Merigeuan’s Genius Loci, South Korean Jeong Daheen’s award-winning Movements, Polish director Tomek Ducki’s Plantarium, and Armenian David Babyan’s Dream of Kafka. A complete list of nominees is available here.

In honor of International Women's Day, Animatricks presented its new look, courtesy of artist and animator Jasmi Ritola. The new mascot represents this year's themes: women and animation, freedom of speech, social criticism, and satire.

In addition to the competition and screenings, the festival program will include a four-day series of Masterclasses and webinars in line with this year’s themes. Animation journalist Nancy Denney-Phelps and the award-winner Finnish director Katariina Lillqvist will discuss women’s history in animation production. Masterclasses will be an online-only event.

Animatricks will offer this year's edition as an online festival on the Eventive platform.
