Animated Women U.K.’s Achieve Program Open for Entries

Now in its second year, the program provides targeted career development to women across the VFX and animation industries.

LONDON -- Animated Women U.K., the  organization  supporting women in the U.K.’s VFX and animation industries, announced its Achieve Program is open for entries. The Achieve Program, first  run in 2017, focuses on supporting women in the VFX and animation industries to achieve their potential.

Funded and supported by Creative Skillset, Disney and Escape Studios, the Achieve Program is open to women either in the VFX and animation industries looking to address the real challenges and barriers faced on a day-to-day basis. It aims to provide strategic career management and is run by acknowledged career-development experts.

Executive coach Marianne O’Connor will run Animated Women U.K.’s Achieve Program.

The course, which is open to women at all stages in their career, will launch Jan. 18, with applications being accepted until Jan. 31 and take a total of 24 participants. Run by accredited executive coach, Marianne O’Connor and experienced coach, facilitator and trainer specializing in women’s leadership development Jan Armstrong, the course will consist of six sessions, taking place every two weeks in central London.

Charlene Haywood, production coordinator in children’s animation, who took part in the 2016 program commented: “The Achieve Program has been pivotal to my career as a production coordinator for children’s animation, and also in helping me achieve my long-term goals. The skills, connections and job opportunities that have been afforded to myself and others on the workshops is invaluable. It felt like I had reached the next stage in my career over those two weeks, which resulted in two years’ worth of guaranteed work at the end. Something that would not have happened outside of the connections I made on the program.”

Coach, facilitator and trainer specializing in women’s leadership development Jan Armstrong will run Animated Women U.K.’s Achieve Program.

Beth Parker, co-chairwoman animation, Animated Women U.K. said: "The past few months have put women's position in the workplace right in the spotlight. Finally, our voices are being heard, and the Achieve Program aims to support women to find the platform that will ensure their voices continue to be loud and proud. I am immensely proud of what the Achieve Program represents and to provide women in the animation industry with the tools to help them progress within their careers.”

Louise Hussey, co-chairwoman VFX, Animated Women, adds: “It has been great to hear from last year’s attendees that the Achieve Program has equipped them with the confidence and skills to further their careers in our industries. The support we have from Creative Skillset, Disney and Escape Studios for this program allows AWUK to help create a network of women all experiencing the same challenges, enabling them to overcome them together.”

Fees for the Achieve Program are £225 for senior participants, £175 for mid-level and £75 for junior level for the  full set of sessions, and will consist of evening workshops in central London.
