Animated Spirits Festival Returns to New York with New European Animation

Third edition of the European Animated Short Film Festival to present groundbreaking works of contemporary animation from nearly 20 EU countries.

Kicking off on Tuesday, Animated Spirits: European Animated Short Film Festival is returning for its third year with recent animated shorts from Europe, presented by the European National Institutes of Cultural (EUNIC) in New York City. The third edition of the festival brings together groundbreaking works from nearly 20 European Union countries to illustrate the spirit of experimentation and discover the boundaries of animation.

The selections will include highlights of the past year in animation, fresh student films from leading European schools and an expanded selection of Visegrad Four films curated by the Visegrad Animation Forum. Each night will include a panel discussion with gurus of contemporary animation from both sides of the Atlantic. Animated Spirits is a carefully curated program, seeking to emphasizing the new, the exciting and the unconventional, while reflecting on the potential of traditional techniques.

The festival is curated by animation historian Anna Ida Orosz, lecturer at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design and co-founder of Primanima World Festival of First Animations, and Vienna-based animation artist, filmmaker, producer and teacher Holger Lang.

All screenings are free and open to the public. Please note that the selections feature shorts exclusively for mature audiences.
