ANIMARKT Stop Motion Forum Announces Program Highlights

The 5-day event for stop-motion animation professionals and enthusiasts welcomes industry leaders for a lineup of masterclasses, hands-on workshops, and one-on-one consultations; the event runs October 13-17 in Lodz, Poland.

The ANIMARKT Stop Motion Forum has announced highlights for its upcoming edition. The Forum, a key event for stop-motion animation professionals and enthusiasts, brings together Oscar winners, BAFTA nominees, and creators from acclaimed studios worldwide, including Melanie Coombs, Will Blecher, Francesca Maxwell, Delphine Nicolini, and others. The event will feature masterclasses, hands-on workshops, and one-on-one consultations with the industry leaders.

“ANIMARKT is a place, where for five days we host the greatest creators in the stop-motion industry,” said MOMAKIN president and Forum co-organizer Paulina Zacharek. “We're honored that such a distinguished group accepted our invitations and that they agreed to share their invaluable knowledge and experiences with our attendees.”

Highlights include:

Masters Section focused on knowledge, discovering how the industry works, and getting to know the leading creators in stop-motion.

Melanie Coombs: Production supervisor and co-producer of the Oscar-winning Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio; producer of the Oscar-winning short Harvie Krumpet (2003) and Mary and Max (2009). Combs will discuss her professional work, experience, and offer a look at how the American and European markets differ.

Will Blecher: Aardman BAFTA-nominated animator known for Oscar-nominated Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon and Curse of the Were-Rabbit (2005). Belcher will share his insights into working at a legendary studio as well as developing independent films.

Stop-Motion Film Premieres:

  • Living Large (June 10)
  • Savages (October 16).

Participants will learn about the crucial role of VFX and post-production in stop-motion from the production manager of the acclaimed anthology The House (2022). Additionally, Francesca Maxwell, an industry icon with credits on Chicken Run, Fantastic Mr. Fox, and ParaNorman, host one-on-one consultations, while Delphine Nicolini shares her experience working on films like Ernest & Celestine and The Swallows of Kabul.

Workshops:

Chris Tichborne: Veteran animator whose credits include Bob the Builder, Postman Pat, and Tim Burton's Corpse Bride and animation director on The House and The Tiny Chef Show, shares his  knowledge of stop-motion filmmaking in an immersive workshop.

Alicia Canovas Verdu: Now at Aardman Animations Verdu’s credits include Wes Anderson’s Isle of Dogs, Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, and Star Wars Visions Volume II. She will share insights into puppet making.

Business Section:

Coffees with Animation: Participants meet creators behind Still Life – an integrated system that brings together pre-production planning, production workflow and digital pipeline for stop-motion. In addition, they can connect with WWF, a Polish stop-motion studio open to co-production opportunities.

Representatives will be on hand from studios such as LAIKA, Pangur Animation, Cornelius Films and ShadowMachine, offering networking opportunities for professionals and aspiring animators alike.

The program is created in collaboration with stop-motion professionals Tim Allen; Angela Poschet; Zofia Jaroszuk; Luce Grosjean; and Nancy Denney-Phelps, who are present at the Forum each year.
