Animafest Zagreb 2015 Merges Feature, Short Editions

Festival organizers announce public call for submission of animated films of all lengths; application deadline is February 1, 2015.

Zagreb, Croatia -- The World Festival of Animated Film – Animafest Zagreb for the first time since its establishment merges the feature and short edition and for its upcoming, integrated edition in 2015 announced screenings of animated films of all lengths.

After ten years of taking it in turns biennially, 2015 marks a turning point in the festival concept, which will from now on give a complete overview of contemporary animated world production of short and feature films on the annual basis.

“Animation is the most dynamic visual art form – from applications to art house cinemas, the number and diversity of productions has never been greater – a real explosion, so to say. In that area, Animafest Zagreb is one of the leading festivals in the world and the only Croatian film festival whose main award directly qualifies for the prestigious Academy Award. In order to keep track and detect the best of world production and present it to the local audience and international scene, we need to put on some speed. I call on all authors to submit their short or feature films. See you at Animafest 2015! Z is for Zagreb!” said Daniel Šuljić, Animafest artistic director regarding the integration.

The upcoming World Festival of Animated Film – Animafest Zagreb takes place 9-14 June in Zagreb. Application deadline for competitions is 1 February 2015.  Short animated films made after 1 January 2014 and feature animated films made after 1 January 2013 are eligible to apply, according to the terms and conditions of Festival Regulations.

The World Festival of Animated Film – Animafest Zagreb was founded in 1972 and it’s the second oldest European festival completely dedicated to animation. For more than 40 years, Animafest Zagreb has been known as one of the leading international animation events; next to Annecy, Ottawa and Hiroshima, is part of the inevitable animation circuit. Also, this is the only Croatian A-list festival.
