The first AniFest was held in 2002, and since then has grown from a local film event to a big festival with international competition, outstanding focuses, retrospectives and lectures. This year, the eleventh edition of AniFest was held in the North Bohemian spa cities Teplice and Duchcov. There were more than 1,600 films submissions from 67 countries; more than 20, 000 visitors enjoyed the main topic of the festival, “The Magic of Film Puppets,” which was chosen to celebrate the anniversary of Jiří Trnka’s birth. Barry Purves, Michel Ocelot, Will Vinton, Paul Wells, Ian Mackinnon, Igor Kovaljov, Giannalberto Bendazzi, Michaela Pavlátová or Jiří Barta were only a few of the great names to be met there.
