AMC/Regal's Open Road to Release Meyer's The Host Adaptation

Open Road, the distribution firm formed by theater chains AMC and Regal, have picked up the rights to Andrew Niccol's adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's book THE HOST, reports Deadline.com.

Open Road, the distribution firm formed by theater chains AMC and Regal, have picked up the rights to Andrew Niccol's adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's book THE HOST, reports Deadline.com. The deal is in the seven figures range, with P&A costs and gross percentages for the producers as well.

Saoirse Ronan will play Melanie Stryder, a young woman who resists the control of the aliens known as Souls who erase the host's personality. Her Soul, known as the Wanderer, tries so hard to connect with her that she falls in love with Melanie's ex-boyfriend.

Meyer, Nick Wechsler, Paula Mae Schwartz and Steve Schwartz are the producers alongside exec producers Marc Butan, Jim Seibel and Bill Johnson and co-producer Roger Schwartz.
