Adult Swim Resurrects ‘Tuca & Bertie’ with New Season Greenlight

Lisa Hanawalt’s critically acclaimed series, dropped last year by Netflix after a single season, gets a 10-episode order.

Adult Swim is resurrecting Lisa Hanawalt’s critically acclaimed animated series, Tuca & Bertie, with a 10-episode second season order to air in 2021. The show, executive produced by Hanawalt, production designer on BoJack HorseMan, and BoJack HorseMan creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg, was dropped by Netflix last year after a single 10-episode season.

The show, starring Tiffany Haddish and Ali Wong, centers on the friendship between two 30-year-old bird women who live in the same apartment building: Tuca (voiced by Haddish), a cocky, care-free toucan, and Bertie (Wong), an anxious, daydreaming songbird. The cast also includes Steven Yuen.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hanawalt commented, “I’ve been a fan of Adult Swim shows since my teens, so I’m thrilled to bring my beloved fowl to the party and be a new voice for a fresh decade of absurd, irreverent, yet heartwarming adult animation.”

Noel Bright (BoJack HorsemanFriends) and Steven A. Cohen (BoJack HorsemanJack & Bobby), as well as Haddish and Wong, will also executive produce. The series is being produced by Michael Eisner’s The Tornante Company.
