Academy Unveils New Visual Identity

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences unveils a new logo and ID inspired by the organization's heritage and its plans for the future.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has unveiled a new logo and ID.

Two years ago the Academy began an internal dialogue regarding its visual identity, and found a need for a new design system that reflects the creativity of the organization. They set out to build something that accurately reflects the Academy’s community of artists, their diverse talents, and the creative process they employ to bring disparate ideas together into a single vision.

With the help of agency 180LA, AMPAS developed a visual identity that's inspired by the Academy's heritage as well as the future, including the much-anticipated opening of the Academy Museum in 2017.

The new logo spotlights the Oscar from above – creating a triangular shape and uniting the "A" of the Academy with the iconic statuette. This design gives the Academy a presence in its own logo for the first time, underscoring its efforts to support creative arts and sciences year-round.
