Aardman Secures Wallace & Gromit Deal

Press Release from Aardman Rights

Aardman Rights has secured a deal with leading publisher and distributor of practical books, manuals and DVDs Haynes, to produce a brand new Wallace & Gromit manual.

The series of books will finally reveal the exact inner workings of Wallace’s vast array of vehicles, inventions and contraptions which feature in the duo’s award-winning TV series and films. The first format will be released autumn 2009.

Since Haynes Publishing was founded in 1960, approximately 150 million Haynes Manuals have sold throughout the world, over one million in the UK last year alone. Alongside the company’s world famous car and motorcycle manuals, Haynes also publishes a huge variety of books on many other motoring, transport, family and DIY related areas as well as computing, health, home maintenance and many other leisure activities.

Sean Clarke, Head of Aardman Rights, says: “We’re really excited about this new, novel opportunity to work with Haynes to produce a fun, practical guide to Wallace & Gromit’s world, and to be one of very few properties that have featured in their own, fictional Haynes manual.”

J Haynes, Managing Director at Haynes Publishing, adds: “Haynes is delighted to be working with such a well respected company as Aardman. The fit with Wallace and Gromit is ideal and will perfectly complement our very young, but growing, children's manual range. Everyone at Haynes is excited at the prospect of working with the Aardman team to create a fabulous Wallace and Gromit "Cracking Contraptions Manual".

This is the latest deal for Wallace & Gromit who were recently chosen to front a brand new 6 x 29’ invention inspired series for BBC One, Wallace & Gromit present A World of Invention. This light-hearted and humorous look at real-life contraptions, gadgets and inventions aims to inspire a whole new generation of innovative minds by showing them real, but mind-boggling, machines and inventions from around the world that have influenced Wallace’s ‘illustrious’ inventing career.

Wallace and Gromit present A World of Invention will be accompanied by a website and online campaign which will further engage and encourage fans to discover their inner inventor.

Wallace & Gromit present A World of Cracking Ideas, sponsored by the IPO, is currently on show at the London Science Museum and will be available in other venues in the UK in 2010.
