NEW YORK -- ASIFA-East will hold its 46th Annual Animation Festival Awards Ceremony on Sunday, May 17, 2015. Awards will be given out across a variety of categories and craft from student, commercial, and independent entries to excellence in writing, design, and animation.
Debuting in 1969, the ASIFA-East Animated Film Festival is one of the longest running festivals of its kind. The festival is a unique showcase for the most groundbreaking independent and commercial animation being produced in the industry today. Every February, entries are submitted and judged during special screenings juried by the ASIFA-East membership. The winning films are presented and screened at the awards ceremony. The exciting evening continues with a lively reception, where award winners, members of the industry, and lovers of animation can meet one another, enjoy a few refreshments, and network.
Codename Kids Next Door creator Tom Warburton will host this year’s festival. Headlining sponsors include Cartoon Network, Cartoon Brew, CelAction, and BatteryPop. Representatives from Women In Animation will be taking part in the ceremony and will be awarding two women, one student and one independent filmmaker, for their excellence in animation filmmaking. Each award will be a membership to WIA, and a $50 gift certificate to go toward a future film festival entry fee. The festival’s first prize Independent Filmmaker will receive two Animapasses to the amazing Ottawa International Animation Festival in Canada, being held this September 16-20.
The Awards Ceremony will be held in The New School’s Tishman Auditorium at 63 Fifth Avenue at 6pm. There will be a reception directly after the ceremony at Wollman Hall, located on the 5th floor at 65 West 11th Street.
ASIFA (Association Internationale du Film d’ Animation) was formed in 1960 by an international group of animators to coordinate and increase worldwide visibility of animated film. ASIFA’s membership includes animation professionals and fans from more than 50 countries. ASIFA sponsors animation festivals in Annecy, Ottawa, and Hiroshima. ASIFA-East is the Eastern U.S. chapter of ASIFA, based in New York City. ASIFA-East hosts monthly screenings of animated films along with other events of interest to those in the East Coast animation community, as well as fans of the medium.
