3D Artist CG Student Awards Issues 2013 Call for Entries

The deadline for submissions to the 2013 3D Artist CG Student Awards, an annual event which showcases and rewards excellence in computer graphics from students and recent graduates, is May 13, 2013.

Imagine Publishing’s leading title for 3D artists has teamed up with the CG Student Awards to announce the launch of the 3D Artist CG Student Awards for 2013.

Rebranded for 2013 as the 3D Artist CG Student Awards, this annual event showcases and rewards excellence in computer graphics from students and recent graduates. To date, the event has kick-started the careers of countless digital artists and has awarded in excess of $200,000USD in prizes.

"This is a huge year for the awards,” declared Andrew McDonald, co-founder of the awards. “Not only do we have a new Naming Rights Partner -- 3D Artist -- but we have opened up the playing field to include a dedicated Next-Gen Games category. To top it off, we have our largest prize pool ever and seven studio internships on offer. The winning School of the Year can also walk away with over $50,000USD in prizes which should make things very interesting. With all this happening, we can't wait to see the calibre of entries submitted."

The 2013 awards are split into four main categories:

  • VFX/Animation
  • Next-Gen Gaming
  • Studio Internships
  • School of the Year

There is a massive prize pool of over $160,000USD and seven (7) studio internships spread across United Kingdom, United States and Canada.

The 3D Artist CG Student Awards runs from 7 March 2013 until 3 June 2013. Finalists will be shortlisted on 20 May 2013 with the Winners announced on 3 June 2013. The deadline for submissions is 11:59pm GMT on May 13, 2013.

The awards are open to all computer graphics students that attended an accredited course between
 January 2012 - June 2013. Entrants can be an existing student or a recent graduate. Examples of suitable courses are Computer Animation, Bachelor of Computer Graphics, Animation and Interactive Media, 3D Computer Animation, Digital Effects, Computer Visualisation, Visual Effect, Game Design and Development.

The awards has an extensive list of high profile companies sponsoring the event including 3D Artist, Conceptshare, Digital-Tutors, Next Limit Technologies, Side Effects Software, Stash Media, The Foundry, Luxology, and Ownage. Other notable industry sponsors include: Pixologic, Chaos Group, Ballistic Publishing, CG Workshops, Tyroe, Digital Rummage, and 3D Total.

Leading production studios Double Negative, Prime Focus, Framestore, The Mill, and Image Engine, are also offering seven professional internships throughout Europe, USA, and Canada. Each studio offers slightly different internships, but an internship winner can expect to receive 2-4 months professional experience, support and guidance from industry leading experts, a standard intern salary, and an amazing opportunity to network and prove their skills.
