ANIMATION WORLD MAGAZINE - ISSUE 4.6 - SEPTEMBER 1999

Licensing and Merchandising,
October 1999

As the holidays approach our minds turn to licensing and merchandising and what is going to be on the shelves this winter. Animation World takes a rounded and grounded approach to the complicated topic of "L & M" in this fall issue. Tarleton Gillespie will take us on a trip through Toys R Us to determine the impact that marrying toys to toons is having on our kids. The French licensing and merchandising market is detailed by Valerie Rivoallon. Sharon Schatz profiles toon loving Rhino Records and Karen Raugust looks at how Sesame Street changes as the popular show travels around the world. We will also hear from show and toy creators about how to work together to get the best possible toy. Which toys will be the hottest of the upcoming season? Not only will we profile the top contenders but also ask toy aficionados around the globe for their predictions.

Robert Story will continue with his tales of Bob Clampett and Beany and Cecil, and J.B. Kaufman will kick off a series about the new Fantasia 2000. Jayanti Sen will profile India's growing animation industry and Glenn Vilppu will continue with his informative online life drawing course. Plus, Karl Cohen will interview animation art collector Michael Glad, and Andrew Osmond will discuss shows about animation that are coming to a television near you. Finally, Maureen Furniss will review the latest from the festival circuit.
