Animation World Magazine, Issue 2.9, December 1997


Animatheka is the first original Russian television program about the art of animation. The show covers the stars of the industry, oddities, current events, news, historical pieces, new inventions and secrets about well-known animated masterpieces. Created as an artistic collage of animated films, documentary reports and original animation (clips, bumpers, title sequences, etc.), every episode of Animatheka is devoted to a certain subject, professional problem, star or special event. Past episodes have covered the animation festivals KROK and Annecy, master artists Yuri Norstein and A. Alexejev, young up and coming Russian animators, as well as Russian puppet animation.

Animatheka has participated in numerous animation film festivals and has won the following honors: Special Mention for Original Artistic Style and Design at the International Festival of Advertising Production (Moscow), Special Prize at the International Women's Film Festival 1997 (Minsk) and Special Mention at the Russian Visual-Arts Festival for Children 1997.

The show is supported by the National (Russian) Group of ASIFA and celebrated Russian animation studios like Soyuzmultfilm, TPM-Studio, Sverdlovskaya Film Studio, Animation Studio Shar.
