New Lara Croft Tomb Raider Trailer Blasts Onto The Net

The latest trailer from Paramounts upcoming TOMB RAIDER is scheduled to hit the web on Wednesday, April 4th, at 12 pm EST, 9 am PST. Based on the best-selling Tomb Raider computer game from Britain's Eidos Interactive, the movie, directed by Simon West (CON-AIR, THE GENERAL'S DAUGHTER) has been shot on location in England, Iceland and Cambodia, and has a scheduled US release date of June 15. The movie stars Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft and her real-life father Jon Voight as Laras father Lord Croft.

John K To Do Flintstone's Toon For Cartoon Network Online

CartoonNetwork.com has announced that they have signed John Kricfalusi to a six short deal. Characters featured in his Web Premiere Toons will include the Jetsons, Yogi Bear and Fred and Barney of THE FLINTSTONES. John K's Spumco Inc. will produce the shorts. John Kricfalusi, creator and producer of THE REN & STIMPY SHOW, started his career at Hanna-Barbera. The first toon is scheduled to go live sometime in May. "John is considered one of the top creative forces in animation - online and on television," said Sam Register, senior vice president and creative director of Cartoon Network Online.

THQ Gains John K's Ripping Friends Gaming Rights

THQ has gained the gaming rights to John Kricfalusi's new TV series THE RIPPING FRIENDS from Hearst Entertainment. The show is scheduled to hit the Fox Kids' line-up this fall. The series follows the misadventures of four wacky superheroes. Currently, Fox has ordered 13 episodes of the show from John K's animation studio Spumco. The first RIPPING console game should hit stores in time for the winter holidays.

Brilliant Digital To Release Multipath Player For Mac

Recently, Brilliant Digital Entertainment has launched their Multipath Digital Projector for the Macintosh. Brilliant also plans to integrate its Digital Projector technology into Apple's forthcoming QuickTime 5 player as a downloadable, integrated QuickTime component. "We believe that our ability to integrate the Digital Projector technology with the Mac platform will provide even greater creative options for artists, as well as compelling new media experiences for consumers," said Kevin Bermeister, president of Brilliant.

Infogrames Nails Men In Black, Peanuts' Rights

France-based Infogrames has announced that it has gained the gaming rights to the TV animated series, MEN IN BLACK, PEANUTS and the live-action film and TV versions of LA FEMME NIKITA. In addition, Infogrames is also in talks to secure the license for TERMINATOR and MEN IN BLACK 2. The rumored bids for the TERMINATOR property are upwards of US$10 million. Games for the first two TERMINATOR films were created by video game producer Ocean, which Infogrames acquired in November 1996.

Lego To Produce Games For Xbox

Microsoft has signed a deal with Lego to create games for its upcoming next-generation console, Xbox. As part of the deal, Lego will also create online activities for the children's section on Microsoft's Websites. Financial terms were not released. In recent years, Lego has aggressively moved to leverage its multicolored interlocking building bricks franchise into new technology. Lego-produced CD-Roms have proven successful and Lego Mindstorms are high-tech robots that utilize microcomputers.

Interplay Nabs Matrix Gaming Rights

Irvine, California-based Interplay Entertainment has obtained the gaming rights to Warner Bros.' hot sci-fi property, THE MATRIX. No financial terms were released, but some analysts project them to be upwards of US$8 10 million. Laguna Beach, California-based Shiny Entertainment has already signed to develop at least one title from Interplay's license. The first game expected to hit shelves is a 3D third person action/adventure title for the PlayStation 2. The release of the game will most likely coincide with the theatrical release of the MATRIX sequel in winter 2002.

Distant Corners Gains Creature Feature Rights

Sci-fi/horror entertainment Website Distant Corners has signed a deal to manage the online and licensing rights for the CREATURE FEATURES franchise. FEATURES is an upcoming HBO and Cinemax series, which will modernize versions of Samuel Z. Arkoff's 1950s classic monster movies. The first two films in the series will be THE DAY THE WORLD ENDED and WAR OF THE COLOSSAL BEAST. The series is being produced by Lou Arkoff, Colleen Camp and Stan Winston, whose Stan Winston Studios will handle the visual effects.

Spielberg & Howard Webtoons Debut On Monday, February 5

CountingDown.com will roll out two animated shorts by directors Steven Spielberg and Ron Howard on Monday, February 5, 2001. Each of the two DREAM shorts will feature a personal introduction by the acclaimed directors and a shot by shot explanation of their own animated dream. PDI DreamWorks was hired to animate the shorts in Flash. The DREAMS will kick-off CountingDown.com's Theater, which will feature over 100 short films made by amateur filmmakers and USC film students, as well as parodies and spoofs.

Australian Government Sets Out To Ban Political Web Game

Government officials in Australia are threatening a lawsuit against WebWank.net for posting a political satire Web game, which pokes fun at the country's treatment of its aboriginal people. Aboriginal Affairs Minister John Herron feels that the use of his likeness in the game, JOHN HERRON'S STOLEN CHILDREN GAME, is a defamation of character. In the game, players must capture all ten of John Herron's children then place them in non-white families.
