I prefer to use hdri outdoor to enhance the visual quality of photorealistic 3d visualizations. In most situations, even the need to fine-tune the exposure disappears. This can all easily be done later. Moreover, often, the dynamic range of hdri is quite enough to adjust even the brightness of light sources and objects illuminated by them in a small range.
