Daniel Hurd's art and animation critiques welcome!

Hello, you fine people of AWN!

I am new here, and loving a lot of the threads I am reading here. Seems like a great community.

About me- I am a 30 something, aspiring character designer- visual dev artist, who currently works in a factory making fuel lines for automobiles, it's not fun but it pays my bills. My dream is to work in an animation studio(s) or in game development. I don't have a formal education and it really isn't in the cards for me due to my financial situation.

I would really like to hear anyone's thoughts and possible critiques of my art. I am really hoping to land a job in animation or visual development in the next 6-12 months. What do you guys think? Is it possible or do I still have a long while before making that leap?

Here is my online portfolio- http://danielhurd.daportfolio.com/

Here are some rough animations for a short I have been working on- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ZWRaYp6C4w

Thank you so much for any and all advice and  constructive criticisms! Hope you guys enjoy!

Dang, not a single person? I

Dang, not a single person? I think I hear a cricket chirping in here...

Hey! You're pretty good for

Hey! You're pretty good for someone who doesn't studied animation or drawing! My suggestion is look for websites were game studios post job offers, like simply hired. I don't remember the exact url but type it on google and you'll find :)

I'm working with games in Brazil and things here are kind of different from the US. A game artist here must do interfaces, characters, backgrounds, animations and whatever is visual. We have only small studios mostly for mobile and casual desktop games, I guess that's the reason an artist does all these things. In other places, like Canada (I was looking for a job there hahaha), your portfolio should focus in something and you need to be the very best on it.

In my opinion, you have good skills to start. Just keep looking for a job and you'll find. I suggest you try drawing some buildings in isometric perspective for your portfolio and maybe learn about Flash and Illustrator. There's a lot of mobile games in vectors these days.

Some great drawings

Those really are some fantastic drawings. A little dark for my tastes, but I enjoyed viewing them. Thanks for sharing. Some of them looked like some real fun characters to develop.

Thank you for the kind words

Thank you for the kind words Mitchie and Solinus! I truly appreciate the  comments.
