Overview

The focus of this talk is the mindset of an FX Artist, and how to take simple ideas and create dramatic results. *During this talk Andrew Lowell (Senior FX TD, Houdini FX Specialist and Instructor) will present some of this work, and give insight into his experience at major VFX studios. *As a Houdini instructor and enthusiast, he'll address how Houdini was used to accomplish some of the most difficult feats in Hollywood action movies, as well as the mindset and process needed to approach these tasks. *His unique experience as a Houdini trainer can also give prospective students valuable insight into what it takes to learn Houdini, and will field questions about the process of learning to be an FX TD, both in school and on the job.

Speaker Bio


Andrew Lowell - Senior FX TD, Houdini FX Specialist and Instructor

Andrew Lowell is currently an FX TD at Digital Domain, and CG experience includes feature film effects at a range of studios such as Rhythm and Hues, Ring of Fire, CIS Vancouver, and Animal Logic. Andrew has also taught college classes in 3d graphics for several years as well as classes for Sidefx, FXPHD, and now Lost Boys | School of Visual Effects. He is the author of a book on music and animation with Houdini. Personal interests include the interaction of visual and sonic perception, and Houdini is his primary application because of it’s audio features and unique abilities with visual effects.
