Team Lost Boys - 48 Hour Horror Film Contest

Lost Boys Studios | School of Visual Effects, gathered several of their current class and some of their alumni to help create a 48 Hour Horror Short Film for a Bloodshots Canada competition.

Our team created "Cerebral Static". A film about the experience of a brain trauma patient during the final moments of his life, horror style. *

As per the rules of the competition, on Friday night at 7PM we were given an envelope with the following criteria to include.

The quote "We don't talk about the accident."
the weapon - a cigarette
the prop - a cassette tape
and the style - Hospital Horror.

I hope you like our short and please VOTE for us! *It only takes a few seconds to vote. Look for the red vote button. Only watch the clip if you are not too squeamish about horror... It's a bit freaky!

We had 48 hours to create a concept based on the style, script, choose roles, locations, shoot the film, visual effects and edit with audio. *No sleep, $600 worth of pizza and red bull, a gallon of fake blood and a ton of fun. *With our usual focus is on shooting VFX related sequences, this was our first attempt at a full production piece. *Large learning curve for everyone and a new respect for film making. *We split the filming across two Canon 5D's and a RED camera. *Working primarily in NUKE; we had green screens to key, virtual sets to build, freaky Siamese twins to stitch together and exposed brains to track over our patient. *Shuttling data between two separate facilities, new camera formats and sharing work between multiple operating systems kept us hopping. Final edit and audio mix came together with just enough time to rush it across town through traffic to deliver with only 5 minutes to spare!

Special thanks to Leviathan Studios for volunteering their studio space and giving us access to their RED camera, jib crane and edit suite, couldn't have done it without them. *Thanks Trevor and Patti!

Congrats and thanks to all members of Team Lost Boys for your hard work, devotion and creative input.

Cheers,

Mark Benard
