2d/Flash animation studios in the US/Canada

Hello everyone,

My name's Amit Tishler, I'm a 2D classic and Flash animator. I moved to the US last summer and am now studying my MFA in animation at MCAD. I'm pimping up my profile and using my time here to make as many connections as possible.

But my main issue is this: Right now, I'm on a student Visa, after I finish my studies I'll have an OPT and will have about a year to find an employer that will be willing to hire me full-time and sponser my work Visa.

I have work exprience in both full time jobs and freelance jobs in TV, Web and software, BUT..I'm a 2D/Flash animator/Artist.

SO, to make long story short- can anyone please tell me what animation studios/ game companies hire 2D/Flash animators in the US and Canada?

I want to have a list of places I know I can apply to when I'll race for a job in order to saty in the US.

one important note: Please no "Transfer to 3D" lectures, and no general stuff..if possible, names, links...anything specific that can help! 10x :D

If you want to see my style of work (sometimes vital for certain work places)- here are a few of my works:

1. My Animation Showreel:

I would like to recommend a company Softway Solutions providing services like Flash animation, 2D and 3D animation. If you are looking for a job, I would like to suggest you to visit softwaysolutions.com.

Very impressing works!
I think you must have received lots of invitation applications for a job.:D

Hi Amit-

I know that there's a few animation studios in Vancouver, BC that do Flash.

Studio B ( now DHX Media)
Atomic Cartoons
Bardel Entertainment
There are others, but those are the three biggest players in Flash in Vancouver.

Now, the tricky part--getting them, heck getting ANY studio to sponsor your visa is going to be tough.
Honestly, there is not a lot of incentive for them to do so especially if they have local talent they can hire.
In many cases, especially in Canada, there are tax incentives for hiring only local talent and newcomers ( unless VERY talented) are often not considered at all.

Its not impossible, but it will likely be difficult.

To get them to consider you, you need to have a first-rate portfolio and/or reel.
Take a look at what those studio have produced in Flash---they have a number of shows between them--and note how they stylize things.
Adjust your portfolio to be like their stuff.

This is important.
They will need to see how you adapt to their products.
Pay close attention to the little things they do.......how they pose characters, draw hands, faces, how they manage and handle effects etc.
These are the things that distinguish their styles and their shows.
If you can pull it off, you'll have a good chance.

Hey Ken, you wrote that book yet?

Hey Ken, you wrote that book yet?

Nope, not planning on it actually.

You can also check out this site Amit, http://coldhardflash.com/
It's geared towards Flash and has links to studios, artists and all things Flash. That might help you in the right direction.

Thank yoy ape and Ken!

The links and advice are great help!

also, if it's not too much to ask- do you think my reel, as it is now, is satisfactory for a job seek of such sorts?

Amit-

I'm not going to answer your question directly--and for two reasons:

One being that I have answered these kinds of questions in the past, and then I was blamed when the askers became upset if I bluntly stated they were not ready.

Second--I have already in a sense answered, if you read my post again:

Look at your work, compare it to theirs. Fix any weaknesses--or just do not show the weak items.
This is a skill you'll need to learn, pretty much on your own.
Its essential, because once you can do this you can fine-tune your work at will.
