Animating Flight Tutorial - CG Animation

So this is a tutorial about CG animation but I think you Flash guys would like to see this. This is a very well made clip. Also, I would like to know what software this guy is using.

Im not sure but that might be maya I know he likes to use maya. but you could do that with most 3d programs

I did this in max, a little different but it has wings flapping

It's animated in Maya, but the same technical techniques should apply to 3D animation program.

It's a fairly good tutorial, but he is a little confused on one main flight principle. Flying isn't the same as swimming. I know it's a very basic model and rig but wings don't flap straight up and down to "push" the air down. Flight is possible because of the shape of a wing, flat on bottom, curved up on top. Air has a greater distance to travel over the top of the wing, so it moves faster over the top of the wing than on the bottom. This causes less pressure on top, so the air pushes the wing up. For all this to happen, the wing needs to move forward to create this lift. With his example, the wing is flat and moves straight down and up not creating lift. The wing has to be angled forward and move down and forward to generate lift.

Aside from that, his timing and the wing drag was good.

Ah, that's the link I was trying to remember Wontobe. I have it bookmarked on my work computer but not at home. That is a very in depth site about flying birds.
