11 Second Club October entry

Hi all,

This is just a rough pass of my entry for this month's 11 Second Club contest.

I'm just working things out, thumbnailing it out in Flash first. I'll move over to Maya once I'm happy with the timing and staging.

As always comments and critiques are more than welcome.

I finally had some time to block my shot out in Maya.

I'm running behind, so I'm going to have to rock this week and weekend.

I changed a bit of the blocking from the Flash version.

Looks neat!
I think I'd put a stronger emphasis on the utterance of the word "help" and less on the word "change". The guy gets more dejected as he talks which I think you begin to capture in letting his movements get subtler towards the end and his arms hang limbly. I agree that he should put some emphasis on "change", feebly rearing for the last time, but not that much.
Love the turn on "I thought" and the pensive poses and the hand-twirling on "get him this girl that he loves". Classic stuff.

Thanks Jabber. Yeah I'll punch up the pose on "Help" a bit more. I don't know if I want to change the pose, maybe just extend it a bit. My thinking of this is that even though he's talking about helping some other guy, the subtext of his whole dialogue is really about him. That things are going to change for HIM. So, when he says "help him" it's kind of and after thought and he's still exasperated and searching for his words.

Yes, the pose he hits on "change" is way to big. I might just lose it all together. I don't know, I'll have to see what it looks like if I take it out. It might just end up being an antic pose.

I'll re-work things a bit tomorrow and re-post. I want to be at a good place Wednesday night so on Thursday I can block in Maya.

Oh, and thanks for the sketches Jabber. Drawings alway get across so much more than just text.

Up dated version.

I made the action on "help him" bigger and I changed the pose towards the end for "change" and made it more of an anticipation for the final pose on "me." It's still alittle big, and I'm not sure I'm that happy with it. Maybe I'll tone it down alittle tonight and see if that works better. Then tomorrow it's off to Maya!
