WIP: Coastline

After some of my previous digital paintings were complete disasters or just not satisfactory whatsoever, I decided to get really serious on the whole digital painting thing. I looked up a number of tutorials on CG Society, which seems to have helped, and my current piece seems to be going well. Here is what I have so far...

This is far from finished, and I haven't bothered with a value study this time around (those just weren't working for me for some reason...I just couldn't connect values and colours). It seems to be going well, is based on a postcard I bought in France.

I decided to focus on the waves lapping up on the beach to begin with after a basic workover. This has gone quite well, surprising me. It still needs a lot more work, but it's a good start for that part.

My intentions are to add cloud on the horizon (the vague, flat type that rolls over the horizon at sunset at the seaside), and it'd be best to have the sun just above these clouds, adding more atmosphere. A lighthouse could also make an appearance in the painting. But, the clouds-sunset approach is a good idea in my mind, it adds something to where there would only be sky (I'm not exactly that great with clouds, so I don't want to bite off more than I can chew - so it's all about compromise for that part). I think it'd contrast well, too, the clouds-sunset part compared to the rest of the sky.

Feedback is welcome and much appreciated. I will post updates as I continue working on this piece.
