'Waiting' animation

Here is the next animation I have been working on...

If anyone is wondering, he's looking at his watch during part of the animation (haven't added it in yet).

Unfortunately, because my brother is not around today, I have to wait to start planning the keyframes for the next animation because I want it to be more exciting than the first two (jumping up and down, ready to catch a ball). Video reference, I think, would be advisable for me to use. My brother is the one who knows how to get video off of the digital camera...

I was contemplating someone trying to pick up heavy weights, and the good ol' bracing themselves by placing their feet on the weights while their arms stretch and stretch, eventually snapping. However, it keeps getting long and drawn out in my mind...perhaps I should do it, but make it as short and to the point as possible...

For a stick figure it is an ok piece. You should think about give your character a stage. So you person is waiting, looks like you shot in on two's so you might wont to thing about doing it on ones. The foot needs work on its cycle, the size of the arc the foot moves through and easy-in, easy-out.

You should think about moving away from the stick if you are doing more with this piece. Stick figure is fast and simple but give him/her some volume to help define the action more.

That is my two cents so please send back any spare change. :D

Ok, I just saw "Looking Test" nice but it needs more frames. It feels like all your work is on two's and they are not smooth. To make a piece look smooth on two's you have to really watch the easy-in and easy -out. Your ball character is poping when it moves. Poping may not be the right work.

The first head turn is a bit large for the action. He's waiting and bored, so he's not going to have that large of a head dip. Yes the head will dip or raise on an arc as it turns but not nearly that much.

The rest of the animation is good but has a lot of beginner problems. Mainly even timing and no weight shift in the hips and shoulders.

Stick figures are fine for animation. You can get a lot of acting and emotion out of them. Just watch some of Pascal's shorts. But stick figures are also very simple, so you shouldn't be slaving away over them. Do one of these shorts, then instead of correcting them, do another one and apply what you learned to the next one. Treat them like gesture drawings. Knock it out quick then move on to another one.

That waiting test is a bit old now, I've worked on it more since then. A lot more. Had a lot of 'fun' in the graph editor...LOL. Here is a much newer version...http://youtube.com/watch?v=wSsSdc6kjJU.

I decided to do some 3D now than just the simple stick figure characters. The first few stick figure characters simply gave me fuel for character animations, seeing as how before then, my definition of character was limited to walk cycles, and it needed expanding.
