Video Compression

I put together a video clip that I wanted to put up on youtube, but everytime I export the file from Adobe Premier, it ends up huge and not that great a quality. Its only 3 and a half minutes so i can't figure out why it would be so big.

Does anyone know of any guides online or maybe have some tips of their own for exporting or a certain codec settings. Any help would be great.

Thanks.

i'd compress these video files by converting them into other ones- i use a program VidLogo, by geovid.com. it's not expensive, but really worth trying.

What are you exporting the file as? Also what are your settings? I've found you can usually drop the sound quality down a lot with out having it affect the quality very much. This also drops the file size down considerably. I also like using Quicktime Pro to recompress files using the H.264 compressor. QT Pro is a really good cheap program.

export

Premier wants to export an avi and these tend be big and ugly. When you export your movie / file/export timleine / click on settings before you go to save. This should bring up a new dialogue box that allows you to change the codec to a quicktime movie as well as playing with the size and audio. If you don't have quicktime pro these settings should still pop up, I hope.

Here is a link that might help? It has some basics for you anyway. Other wise try the adobe site?

The only thing to do with good advice is to pass it on. It is never of any use to oneself. My Blog: Strange Thoughts

Can you tell me how to compress an AVI or Windows movie

Hello.

I want to add animation material to my website and to sites like YouTube.

My work is on AVI file or windows moviemaker files. I have Photoshop, ImageReady, basic QuickTiime and Movie Maker and Rad Video Tools.

Any suggestions- do I need another piece of software?

Thanks.

Hi, Larry. YouTube takes most video codecs. It's best if you can upload in mpeg 4, but it really doesn't matter. It just might takea little longer for them to recompress the video for posting. There is a size limit, though. Around 100MB, I think.

So, no new software (or even work) is needed.

YouTube also works on standard res video (640x480 or thereabouts). If you upload any widescreen stuff, it'll smoosh it.

For the web, well, that's up to you. You can post anything on your site, it's just a matter of bandwidth constraints and what's easiest for your visitors.

For video on the web, I prefer Flash video. Decent compression and quality; lots of control; and streaming is available. But it costs $$$.

For web video services, I prefer Google video. They still take just about anything, but I typically have less trouble with their player when posting to blogs. And it just looks nicer (the player).

Hope that helps.
