Hi
I am interested in animation and can use the basics of flash 8 and toonboom v3. I was going to enter the cineme 2005 contest but ran out of time! I don't have a clue if there is going to be a cineme 2006 or how this business of putting animated feature films or cartoons series on tv. Could someone just basically, or of course if you have the time, explain to me the foundations behind this whole industry. I am only 15, and want to do this as a part time job to help pay for my university in 4 years time.

Could you explain to me how to find or contact a distriutor in the UK.
At the moment i am making a cartoon called... and i would have to pay my writer, and artist at some point.

Thankyou, all i need is the foundation, interior and exterior i of the industry in basic notes, and direction to how to get in to it!

Thanyou very much.

I'm sure there are a ton of people on this forum who know more about the business side of animation than I do... But I felt like responding anyway because I'm in a similar position as you, jp003d9141. I will simply assert that it's never too early to learn about how the industry works--matter of fact, the earlier the better.

Good luck!

If I were you, I'd keep working in Flash, and enter contests and so on. There seems to be a fairly healthy interest in Flash animation on the web. It will get your work seen, and might lead to a job or scholarship or something later on. I wish I'd gotten in to all this seriously at your age!

Thankks gys, for all your help, i think i will keep entering contests, right now im making a film, but it has been delayed cos i can't go and meet my artist. I got two Bs in my modular science exams, so im grounded, for 3 weeks. I mean even if i got 2 As i would have had some sort of punishment, due to the fact that in England the highest grade at gcse level is an A*, Forget that anyays. If you would like i will post a link to the film just after i enter the comp with it.
Thankyou and keep in touch if you have anymore pointers.

Oh and does anyone if there is to be a Cineme2006 contest?

You are not asking for much, are you. :D

You are 15 so you will have to get a job suited to a 15 year old. I have no idea of what the laws are like in Enland but it might be unlikely that you can get employment animating at this stage. So work on your craft, your school, and, if you get one, your job. Be sure to post a link so we can check you your work.

I wouldn't limit your jobs based on age unless you're required by law, but in a way he's right because it's going to be exceptionally difficult doing almost anything in animation and getting paid for it, in your situation, as there are such a massive amount of people that -can- devote themselves to it full-time.

It may be simple, but it's not easy, and before you exhaust yourself doing something with which you only hold a passive interest anyway, you might want to look around to other options.
